Excursion to Chemical Industry
Once a year, we offer an excursion to chemical industry. Recently, we have visited BASF (Ludwigshafen, 2005), Berlin-Chemie (Adlershof, 2006), and BASF (Ludwigshafen, 2007). Please note that the information provided here may change due to organizational reasons.
Upcoming Excursion
The next excursion is scheduled for November 15-16, 2009. We will visit BASF in Ludwigshafen. A bus transfer will bring us to Ludwigshafen on Sunday. On Monday, we will visit the company. A bus transfer will take us back during the night to Tuesday.

Registration
The deadline for registration is July 24, 2009, because the number of participants is limited to 24 and the bus transfer needs to be organized in time after the deadline.
If interested to participate, please sign up for the excursion by emailing the following information
to Christoph Schalley (schalley
chemie.fu-berlin.de).
Incomplete registration cannot be processed; please understand that I do not have the time
to ask you for missing information. The following information is required:
matriculation number
name and given name
email address (choose one you regularly check, please)
semester number
whether you are BSc, MSc, diploma or polymer science student
birth date (for the access permits to the company sites)
shoe size (for safety shoes that may be required inside the company)
Communication with participants will be by email.
Costs
The overnight stay and the day at the site will be sponsored by the company (e.g. meals etc.). However, travel costs need to be paid by yourselves (ca. 65 Euros). The institute does not have the funds available to sponsor these costs. We try to reduce the costs as much as possible by choosing a bus transfer.
Details of the payment procedure and the exact price will be sent to you by email before the excursion.
A Few "Rules"

Participants from the Bachelor/Master programs in Chemistry including teachers, and from Polymer Science are welcome. If we have more participants than places, we will at the deadline decide according to semester number so that those who will finish their studies soon can take part at least once. Those who have been on an excursion before can only be accepted, if free places are available.

Since there are a few Diploma students in Chemistry left for whom participating in an excursion to industry is mandatory, they will be accepted preferentially, unless they have participated before.

At the time of the deadline, your registration is finalized. If you decide later than that not to participate, you will need to contribute your share to the travel costs, if it is not possible to waive these costs. Of course, you can nominate another person to substitute you. Please make sure before the deadline that the date of the excursion does not collide with exams you have to take.

Free places will be given to those registering after the deadline only, if organization permits (e.g. number of seats available in chartered buses etc.)

At the company sites, it is absolutely mandatory that you stick to the safety rules. Usually, smoking, mobile phones, and cameras are strictly forbidden. If necessary, you will receive safety equipment from the company. Make sure to use it properly and at all times necessary.
